Federal Prison Reduces Inmate Movement

BERLIN — A spokesman for the federal prison in Berlin said inmate movement to and from the facility has been greatly reduced over the past several weeks.
The Bureau of Prisons has also instituted a temporary lockdown across the system.
Some residents have questioned why new inmates are being transferred into the prison during the current coronavirus epidemic.
Federal Correctional Institution Public Information Officer Aaron Posthumus said the bureau is taking steps to greatly reduce transfers and new commitments into the system but said the bureau is required to take certain inmates into its custody.
