Franklin Pierce University plans to return students back to campus in the fall for in-person instruction.
Franklin Pierce, as with all New Hampshire schools, has been teaching students remotely since March, finishing off the spring semester virtually. With the regularly scheduled commencement ceremony for seniors passing last week without a physical ceremony – which the university is still working on an alternative for – officials have begun to look to the fall semester. Which, it announced Wednesday, plans to welcome students back to campus for in-person learning.
“As an alumna of Franklin Pierce, I understand firsthand why our students miss the dynamic and enriching in-person interaction that is such an integral part of life and instruction on campus,” said FPU President Kim Mooney. “That is one of the many reasons it gives me great joy to inform our students that we will be welcoming them back to campus for the 2020 fall semester.”
While the return to classes is a step towards normalcy, the university made clear that next year would not start with the status quo. Plans will be in place to ensure that whatever government or state mandates regarding social distancing at that time, they will be kept. The university plans to continue to work with health agencies such as the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services to ensure that new protocols are sufficient to protect students, Mooney said.
